Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Giachello is An associate Professor at the Jane Addams College of Social Work and director of the Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center at the University of Illinois-Chicago where she is conducting health disparities research in the areas of chronic diseases (diabetes and cardiovascular) using community participatory action research. She is currently Principal Investigator (PI) of the CDC Center of Excellence for the Elimination of Disparities through Community and System Change (REACH US); and Co-PI of the NIH-NHLBI Hispanic community health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) Chicago Field Center-- the largest multi-site epidemiological research study on the Hispanic/Latino population in the US. Dr Giachello did her undergraduate work at the University of Puerto Rico in social sciences (Psychology and Sociology); her master’s degree in community organizing, planning and policy work from the University Of Chicago School Of Social Services Administration, and her Ph.D. is in Medical Sociology with a specialty on minority/Latino health, also from the University of Chicago.
