Biographical Sketch: Andrew M. Muriuki, Ph.D., is a behavioral health scientist with research interests in the socioeconomic and physical environmental factors that could account for disparities in health outcomes among adolescents and emerging adults. Dr. Muriuki is very passionate about child rights and how the violation of these rights impact children’s wellbeing including their health, socioeconomic and physical development. Muriuki received his Ph.D. in social work from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University. As a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Addiction & Behavioral Health Research (CABHR) in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he examined the impact of civic participation (social capital) of men who have sex with men (MSM) on their sexual risk behaviors. His doctoral dissertation research investigated the impact of household environment on the health outcomes of adolescents in Kenya. Dr. Muriuki is also a recipient of the Population Reference Bureau Dissertation Fellowship in population policy communications.
