Biographical Sketch: Louisa A. Stark, Ph.D. is Director of the University of Utah Genetic Science Learning Center. The Center's mission is "making science easy for everyone to understand". Its primary focus is developing educational materials for students and teachers in grades 5-12, their families and members of the public. The Center's Learn.Genetics website is the most widely-disseminated genetics education site in the world; it currently receives over 8 million unique visits from 189 countries. The Center uses a community-based participatory approach, working with teachers, students, and community members to develop all of its educational materials. In recognition of her and the Center's work, Stark received the 2008 Award for Excellence in Human Genetics Education from the American Society of Human Genetics.
