Biographical Sketch:
APHA 2010 Introduction and Biosketches for Monica Smith and Krista Ward The next two presentations are on the topic of “Back Pain in Young People”, and will be presented by Monica Smith. In the first presentation, Dr. Smith will describe a method for using longitudinal data from the Medical Expenditures Panel Survey (MEPS) to discern the chronicity of health conditions such as back pain. The second presentation is a first report of preliminary data from the MEPS examining variations in the use of health services by young people with back pain, and is a collaborative work of Krista Ward and Monica Smith. Krista Ward received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic West and her Masters in Public Health from San Francisco State University. She has worked to reduce health disparities through patient care, community health education, policy advocacy and research. Monica Smith is dual-degreed in chiropractic and in health services research. She has been involved with research and teaching for 25 years, at the School of Public Health and School of Medicine at St. Louis University, at the VA, and with the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research.
