Biographical Sketch: Douglas K. Chung, LMSW, MA, Ph.D., is a professor in the School of Social Work at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. He is the first social work scholar to introduce ancient Chinese Qigong Technologies and Energy Therapies as self-care programs into human services. He has taught Energy Therapies courses to graduate students and served as energy therapist and master since 1995. Trained as a researcher in mental health, community organization, and family therapy, he has extensive practice and teaching experience and has publications in cross-cultural social work education and practice. He has developed and published culturally competent models, such as Confucian, Christian, Buddhist, Islamic, and Taoist models for personal and social transformation through the integration of energy therapies and human services. He developed various energy therapies, such as Tai Chi, Diet, Qigong, Water, Sound, Meridian, Clapping Hands, and Meditation etc. for holistic health. He is the author of Qigong Therapies: A Self-care Approach, Chinese Social Work in the 21st Century and Energy Therapies. He was one of the editors and authors of Social Work with Asian Americans. He is a Qigong practitioner (since the age of 17), researcher, workshop designer, and conductor for human services. He is writing another two books of Meridian Therapies and Christian Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Asian Center.
