Biographical Sketch:
Roger Wilson, OD, is Vice President for Health Center Programs of the New England Eye Institute (NEEI), the patient care and clinical teaching subsidiary of the New England College of Optometry. He is a 1980 graduate of the College and holds the rank of Professor. Dr. Wilson is nationally-recognized as a leader in community based health care, interdisciplinary clinical education, and best practices in health care delivery. He has published numerous papers in the area of clinical care, public health and optometric education, has served as editor of two professional journals and is past director of clinical education at the College. NEEI is the leading nonprofit eye care network in Massachusetts. NEEI proactively responds to disparities in visual health by providing high quality eye and vision care to the most vulnerable populations, including the poor, disabled, homeless, those with special needs, and the frail elderly. Under Dr. Wilson’s leadership, NEEI’s work with community health centers has sharply expanded. In 2009, there were some 60,000 patient visits for eye care services provided by NEEI at 14 Greater Boston health centers. Nationally he is the chair of the American Optometric Association’s Community Health Center Committee, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a member of the American Public Health Association. He is a frequent presenter at national programs, including the National Association of Community Health Centers annual meetings.
