Biographical Sketch:
Burton Edelstein DDS MPH, a pediatric dentist, is professor of dentistry and health policy at Columbia University and Founding Chair of the Children’s Dental Health Project in Washington DC. At Columbia, he chairs Social and Behavioral Sciences and conducts research on Medicaid/SCHIP and Early Childhood Caries. He practiced and taught pediatric dentistry for 21 years before committing to full time health policy practice. Following a 1996-7 Robert Wood Johnson Congressional Fellowship focused on SCHIP, he managed DHHS oral health initiatives. Edelstein is a graduate of Harpur College, SUNY Buffalo School of Dentistry, Harvard School of Public Health, and the Boston Children's Hospital pediatric dentistry residency.
