Biographical Sketch: Wendy Johnson, MD, MPH
Director of New Initiatives, Health Alliance International (HAI)
Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Washington
Dr. Johnson has over 10 years of experience in public and international health as a clinician, teacher, policy-maker, technical advisor and manager. She is currently Director of New Initiatives for Health Alliance International, developing new projects. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Global Health at the University of Washington. Previously, she directed HAI’s HIV prevention, testing and treatment scale-up in Mozambique. Her responsibilities included overall project management, policy advocacy, coordination of research and training, and project development. Dr. Johnson also previously served as Medical Director of the Cleveland Department of Public Health. Dr. Johnson completed her undergraduate and medical education at Ohio State University, her Family Practice Residency at the University of New Mexico, and holds a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. Her career has been focused on work with marginalized populations both in the US and internationally, especially in the areas of maternal-child health, HIV and urban health. In addition to Mozambique, she has worked, volunteered, or provided technical assistance to projects in Ethiopia, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Haiti, India, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
