Submit Abstract

The Trade & Health Forum of the American Public Health Association invites abstracts for presentation at the 2007 Annual Meeting to be held in Washington, DC, November 3-7, 2007. Please see the topic list, the illustrative list of invited presentations below and the session titles.

  • Economic policies, trade and health

  • Health workforce and immigration policies

  • Living wage, trade and health

  • Pharmaceutical policies and access to medicines

  • Political campaign funding, trade policy and health

  • Spiritual ethics, trade and health

  • Structure and function of corporations, trade and health

  • Sustainable trade policies and practices and health

  • Tobacco and alcohol trade policies and health

  • Trade policies and worker safety and health

  • Trade policy, indigenous cultures and health

  • Trade-related environmental health issues


  • Topics related to this year’s theme: “Politics, Policy and Public Health” and all areas of the relationship between trade and health will receive high priority. This Call for Abstracts for scientific sessions is a request for papers that focus on a) the relationship between trade policy and health status measures, b) how health advocacy and political efforts influence trade policy and c) an examination of underlying societal level structural factors that influence trade and health. Presentations may be scientific studies, descriptions of or evaluations of advocacy activities or policy analysis. Public health students are encouraged to submit papers for a poster session. Anticipated session topics are listed below.

    • Public Health Students' Perspectives on Trade & Health
    • The Relationship Between Trade Policy and Health Status Measures
    • The Underlying Societal Level Structural Factors that Influence Trade and Health
    The submission deadline is February 16, 2007. Abstracts must be submitted electronically through the APHA Website. The abstract is limited to 250 words. An author’s paper may not have been presented or published prior to its presentation at the Annual Meeting. Presenters must be members of APHA unless specifically exempted by APHA.
