2008 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Background
This is the 100 year anniversary of the Health Administration Section. New in 2008, is the opportunity for APHA members to join up to three sections. We invite all APHA members to be primary members of Health Administration – but we also welcome all members who join our section! Health Administration is the right section for you if you have interest in the advancement of quality and best practices in health administration leadership skill development, and participation in cutting edge dialogue about health administration and leadership practice.

2008 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
This section invites papers for presentation that address one of the two categories listed below. We encourage papers that address research, practice and policy issues as they relate to health administration and leadership in domestic and international governmental public health agencies, for profit and nonprofit health organizations, academia, business, industry and other settings.

APHA’s Health Administration Section invites abstracts for the 2008 Annual Meeting in one of two general categories:

(1) Papers addressing the APHA conference theme of Public Health Without Borders; and
(2) Papers addressing the 100 Year Anniversary of the Health Administration Section

CATEGORY 1: PUBLIC HEALTH WITHOUT BORDERS
This class of papers should emphasize innovative leadership and management strategies within public health systems recognizing the challenges of various borders. Authors should think broadly about “borders” and consider various borders such as geographic, organizational, discipline diversity, resources (rich versus poor), political, ethnicity, union environments, research versus practice, etc. Papers should identify the specific administrative and leadership challenges resulting from crossing borders. We encourage papers that focus on solutions including best practices, promising models for the future, and/or instructive failures that offer insight for improvement. These papers should focus on practice or applicable research and consider transportability and applicability of lessons learned to other settings.

CATEGORY 2: 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE HEALTH ADMINISTRATION SECTION
This class of papers should emphasize how the practices of health administration and leadership have changed over the past 100 years. Of particular interest are papers addressing leadership development in general and of the next generation of health administrators, lessons learned from history that can influence the current and future practice of health administrators and the impact that research has on the practice of health administration as well as the impact practice has on research.
