Global management requires helping people work together from vastly different regions as well as cultures; bringing people together for face-to-face meetings is inconvenient and sometimes financially impossible. Teleconferencing, listserves, blogs, webcams, social networking software and sophisticated programs such as Elluminate and Google Docs now make it possible to overcome such barriers by conducting meetings in virtual space. In addition to helping to remove borders between countries methods of virtual collaboration can also be used to overcome unwanted borders within organizations that dampen creativity, innovation and slow the pace of work. This presentation addresses some of the practical considerations for managing and working on virtual teams.

Learning Objectives:
1. List benefits and disadvantages of virtual teamwork. 2. Describe conditions conducive to virtual collaboration. 3. Cite current tools used for virtual teamwork. 4. Imagine ways virtual teams may be used in their own organizations.
