173374 A model of wellness care incorporating physical, biochemical and psychological dimensions of healthSunday, October 26, 2008
Healthy living practices involving regimen have been practiced for centuries and are centered on the physiological uniqueness of the individual. In a wellness paradigm, illness - especially chronic illness - is viewed as the culmination of persistent and insidious behaviors that lead to poor health outcomes. The purpose of this presentation is to describe a model of wellness care that integrates the physical, bio-chemical and psychological dimensions of health.
Through a fully integrated system, individuals are assessed physically, bio-chemically and psychologically utilizing physiological outcome tools and specialized software which arrives at a Wellness Quotient for the individual. These results are then used to develop a customized wellness program with follow-up assessments being conducted to determine progress. Physical fitness is addressed through strength and cardiovascular assessment and training. Dietary and nutritional aspects are addressed through specialized meal planning and customized nutritional supplements. Psychological support and coaching is provided to address the mind-body relationship as a component of wellness. This presentation is a description of a model incorporating the physical, biochemical and psychological dimensions of health. Future efforts will address health care outcomes related to the model.
