174510 Current Situation and Prospect of Health Information Development in TaiwanTuesday, October 28, 2008
The National Health Insurance implemented in March of 1995 in Taiwan was for the care of all citizens' health. After online application for the insurance payment and IC card were available, more than 99% of contract hospitals have been connected to Internet, and the IC card of the insurance represents the best personal health identification, both of them providing a good foundation for health information development in Taiwan. Health information technology has drawn much attention internationally in medical care, and with a higher awareness of people to self-health management, Taiwan launched a four-year national health information development project in 2008. This project was aimed to establish an environment of national health information exchange based on current development to create innovations in health information to ultimately achieve the goal of returning the people their own health information.
