178297 Development of Sasang Constitutional Nursing(SCN) Theory using Hybrid modelSunday, October 26, 2008
Purpose: There is a need for Korean nursing to understand the nursing education and nursing practice based on traditional nursing theory. Sasang Constitutional Medicine has been received as a medical treatment for over one hundred years among people. But the concept of 'Sasang Constitutional Nursing (SCN)' hasn't been developed and couldn't be offered to the Oriental nursing domain. The purpose of this study was to develop a theory and to clarify the process through defining the meaning and attributes of SCN.
Method: The Hybrid model of theory development was done in three phases: the theoretical phase, fieldwork phase and analytical phase. We reviewed the published textbooks and literature articles listed on PubMed (using the search terms ‘temperament' ‘tailored nursing' and ‘nursing'). This cultivated a theory of SCN, which included a field study using in-depth interviews with 9 experts (various fields of experts such as Sasang Constitutional medicine- Korea Traditional medicine- Korea Traditional nursing). Results: The theory of SCN emerged as a complex phenomenon having meanings in several different dimensions which encompassed several attributes. In addition, the conceptual structure of SCN is centered around four dimensions: The “I”, The “Things”, “Caring of Sickness” and “The Regimen”. Conclusions: The SCN theory presents a clear definition and a conceptual framework for SCN as specific individual interventions. It is possible to enrich the meanings and methods to manage SCN interventions whose application may have a positive impact on our well-being. The results could be used effectively in developing SCN assessment scales. Key Words: Hybrid model, concept analysis, Sasang constitutional medicine, Nursing theory
