During the early fall of 2006 at the behest of the New York State government, the administration at a public university in upstate New York decided to be proactive and get a head start in developing a campus wide plan to prepare for Pandemic Flu. The purpose of this presentation is to describe the development of that plan from beginning to completion. The presentation will discuss the development of: the interdisciplinary committee composed of faculty and professional staff; the actual plan including the plans for each stage from pandemic flu alerts to pandemic flu diagnosed in the Northeast United States; and the development of listing of essential personnel who would have to staff the university during a university shut down. Finally, the presentation will conclude with a description of the table top exercise that was held to test the plans practicality.
Learning Objectives: 1.Describe the process of creating a plan for Pandemic Flu for a university campus.
2.Discuss the rationale for developing an interdisciplinary planning committee for Pandemic Flu and for the development of the listing of essential personnel.
3.Evaluate how the table top exercise tested the practicality of the Pandemic Flu Plan.
