In this panel, high school students and adults from partnering agencies will share their experiences in developing health and safety messages and educational approaches targeting young workers. Panel presentations will be followed by facilitated discussion on the challenges and benefits of youth and adults working together to address health and safety in the workplace, and on possible strategies for strengthening a growing network of young health and safety advocates.

Young Worker Leadership Academy, Los Angeles, CA: High school students who participated in a 3-day health and safety training program held will share their experience at the academy and in planning and conducting an activity in their own community to promote young worker health and safety. They will describe challenges and successes, and provide suggestions for training future youth advocates.

Youth Mentors, Berkeley, CA: Graduates from earlier Young Worker Leadership Academies will describe their experience returning to help plan and conduct the Academy. They will also discuss strategies for ongoing training, leadership development, and networking among YWLA alumni as new health and safety advocates.

Leadership Education and Action to Promote Safety (LEAPS), Dorchester, MA. Staff and youth partners will describe how youth planned and implemented this three-day youth conference focused on workplace violence prevention, young worker safety and health, and child labor laws.

Teen-designed video PSAs: Presenters will describe and share winners from two video PSA contests, held in California and in British Columbia, in which teens were asked to develop short PSAs to promote young worker health and safety.
