1. Objective

This study was undertaken in order to investigate the actual nutrient intake in different Sasang Constitutional types.

2. Subjects and Methods

984 subjects between the age of 40 and 69 were recruited (292 male, 692 female) and had their Sasang constitutional types diagnosed (1 Taeyangin, 242 Soyangin, 492 Taeumin, 249 Soeumin). The Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire was used to collect data. The mean daily nutrient intake and the quality of nutrient intake index were checked and used to compare the three constitutional groups (Soyangin, Taeumin, and Soeumin).

3. Results and Conclusion

The comparison of the mean daily nutrient intake and the quality of nutrient intake index for the three constitutional groups was as follows:

‡@ In the male group, the mean daily fat intake was significantly higher in Taeumin than in Soeumin. The carbohydrate calorie ratio was significantly higher and the fat calorie ratio lower in Soeumin than in the other two groups. The % RDA for vitamin B significantly differed between the groups.

‡A In the female group, the mean daily fat intake was significantly higher in Soyangin than in Soeumin. The carbohydrate calorie ratio was significantly higher and the protein and fat calorie ratio lower in Soeumin than in Soyangin. The INQ for protein was significantly higher in Soyangin than in Soeumin.
