181948 Strenthening America's public health laboratories: An overview of state and federal efforts

America's public health laboratories play a critical role in protecting citizens against terrorism and disease. Laboratories are responsible for collecting and analyzing data and identifying threats to environmental and human health. In addition, they work with other health authorities, officials and first responders to form appropriate responses to protect entire communities. This presentation will detail the important responsibilities of public health laboratories in protecting against future outbreaks and responding to existing threats. The current state of our nation's public health laboratories and current challenges this system is facing will be explored along with how federal and state governments are working to meet these challenges and boost the quality and capacity of this network of laboratories.

Learning Objectives:
Develope an understanding of the role of America's public health laboratories in protecting against health threats. Analyze the importance of public health laboratories and discuss state and federal government efforts to support their work. Assess and analyze efforts to protect public health through america's public health laboratories.
