Gary Stuart, MPH , Division of Reproductive Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA
Overview of the Atlas section: This section of the training will introduce the students to the Reproductive Health Atlas—a web-based interactive geographic information system (GIS) developed and managed at CDC that is dedicated to reproductive health issues such as infant mortality, fertility, and low birth weight. The instructor will discuss the data contained in the atlas, how the atlas uses and displays the data, how to manipulate the data to view maps of different risk and demographic population groups, how to use the help menus, and how to export or save your work.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this workshop, the student will be able to:
1. Describe and apply the use of GIS in reproductive health and community health assessment.
2. Use the Atlas to:
• access reproductive health data for their local area as well as adjacent areas, and larger regional areas for comparison to their local area
• produce maps for reports and presentations
• compare reproductive health indicators across different demographic groups, and geographic areas
3. List and describe the strengths and limitations of the Atlas.
