Faculty will provide detailed information on the two HCUP national-level databases: the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) and the Kids' Inpatient Database (KID). The design, file structure, research applications, and benefits/limitations of both of these databases will be discussed. Additionally, information on HCUP's newest pilot national database the Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS) will be presented.

Describe the two main HCUP national-level databases and explain the design, file structure and uses of the databases. Describe the HCUP pilot NEDS file.
