Monday, October 27, 2008: 9:15 AM
This session will present community models use to outreach to low-income families who live in linguistically and culturally diverse neighborhoods which suffer disproportionate number of environmental injustice issues, particularly asthma. Participants will learn about outreach techniques including peer-on-peer education, design and implementation of outreach materials, and the use of collaborations to increase community involvement. Participants will better understand the translation process needed to properly reach diverse communities, the use of community people to affect policy changes in the management of asthma, and the use of collaboration to increase outreach and funding potentials. Through collaborations, participants will be able to assess their agencies strengths and work towards building collaborations in the areas identified as needing improvements.
