Massachusetts is now two years into its experiment mandating that adults in the state carry health insurance or face an increasing financial penalty. If an employer offers affordable insurance, the employee must take it. The state has expanded subsidized insurance options for those without access to employer coverage and worked with private insurers to create “affordable” individual insurance for those above 300% of poverty. Who's covered? Who's still not? How much are they paying and what are they receiving in return? At a broader level, how much is the state paying? Community health and human service providers have helped advocate for and implement the Massachusetts's health reform legislation. Find out how it is working in practice and the policy changes they recommend for improvement. Audience questions and discussion are specifically encouraged.

Learning Objectives:
Articulate Massachusetts’ original goals with its Health Reform legislation; Compare those original goals with current Massachusetts’ health insurance enrollment and coverage results; Assess the applicability of Massachusetts’ policies to other state or federal universal health insurance legislations.
