Joyce Q. Sheats, BSN, MPH , National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer III: Community Networks Program, Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA
The Community Networks Program (CNP), instituted by the National Cancer Institute in 2005, established partnerships among racial/ethnic minorities and underserved populations to conduct community-based participatory research (CBPR). This effort includes 25 institutions supporting community-based participatory education, training, and research. The overall goal of the program is to significantly improve access to - and utilization of - beneficial cancer interventions and treatments in communities experiencing cancer disparities in order to reduce these disparities. Upon completion of this session, participants will identify, define and evaluate the CNP effort, its impact and the potential for forming similar efforts with targeted communities.

Learning Objectives:
Identify the aims of the CNP. Define the basic principles of CBPR. Evaluate the importance of the CNP effort in impacting cancer health disparities.
