186957 Tranny Rockstar project: Changing social normsMonday, October 27, 2008: 4:48 PM
This presentation will provide an overview of the Tranny Rockstar Project. The Tranny Rockstar Project is an HIV-prevention intervention designed for transgender identified youth ages 14 to 24. Even though the Tranny Rockstar Project was originally designed as an HIV prevention project, the graduates from the Tranny Rockstar Project have taken upon them selves to do more than just HIV prevention. This particular intervention helps participants to learn the basic elements of HIV infection/transmission and how to be safe from contracting and transmitting HIV. This intervention provides participants training on how to initiate safer sex conversations with their sexual partners and at the same time encouraging their friends to take the lead in being safe for themselves. It also provides the opportunity for participants to practice the skills they are learning through role-plays with different scenarios. Through this intervention Tranny Rockstar graduates have been able to influence their friends and their peers to be safer when having sexual activities.
