Using the National Environmental Public Health Performance Standards
Monday, October 27, 2008: 11:30 AM
The presenter will describe pilot use of the Public Health Performance Standards tool in two large and two small Florida counties, the eye-opening results of working through the process, and steps taken to shore up areas of the 10 Essential Public Health Services necessitating attention while maintaining excellence in areas scoring well with the tool. Community introspection surfaced as a required experience and areas with Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health (PACE-EH) programs appeared to have an advantage of better understanding community needs and targeted methodologies for addressing these concerns. Florida plans to further support other county health departments' (CHD) use of the tool and review scores within the context of perceived quality or effectiveness of the CHD and whether there are improvements as a result of the evaluation. In addition to the local use, the speaker will discuss a state evaluation component and actions taken as a result of implementation.
Learning Objectives: 1) Participants will learn how one state approached the use of the standards and lessons learned from the activity
2) Participants will consider how they can use the performance standards in their own setting
