Public Health has now joined virtually every health profession in having a core credential. After a long gestation process NBPHE held its first credentialing examination in August, 2008. NBPHE is an independent voluntary organization whose board includes nominees from APHA, APTR, ASPH, ASTHO, and NACCHO. Graduates of CEPH-accredited graduate schools and programs are eligible for receiving the Certificate in Public Health (CPH) upon success in an examination which focuses on the core and cross-cutting educational competencies relevant to the practice of contemporary public health. The NBPHE is committed to foster continuing education in public health through recertification.
Learning Objectives: Explain the current public health credentialing process and its potential to significantly advance the resources and stature of the public health workforce.
Identify issues related to present and future credentialing that are relevant to furthering the goal of improving the health of the public through enhancing the recognition and role of the public health workforce.
