For more than 40 years, health centers in the United States have delivered comprehensive, high-quality primary health care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. Health centers have been successful in increasing access to care, improving health outcomes, reducing health disparities among US population groups, and containing health care costs. America's community health centers reach 20% of the 48 million underserved in areas lacking access to primary care providers. 826,000 migrant or seasonal Farmworkers and their families served by HRSA-funded health centers in 2007.
Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas is a community health center network located in the fertile Salinas Valley of California that has roots in the agricultural community/ The services and programs created to served the largely Farmworker community have been developed using community-oriented primary care as a model.
