Linda Lysoby, MS, CHES
,
Executive Director, National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc, Whitehall, PA
The Competency Update Project (CUP) re-examined the original competencies and established a structure for professional preparation and practice across the spectrum of academic education from undergraduate through the doctorate. Based upon the CUP research, a hierarchical model of 7 areas of responsibility, 35 competencies, and 163 sub-competencies emerged. These efforts formed the initial bases for quality assurance in the professional preparation and practice of health education. As with every profession, there is a responsibility to assure that the standards by which it measures its competence to practice are in alliance with needs of society. With the 2007 CUP efforts just behind us, this session will describe the initial steps to begin the job-analysis to re-verify the health education competencies for practice for the next generation of practitioners.
Learning Objectives: Outline the job analysis to re-verify the health education competencies.
