Social Medicine/Medicina Social, an online, open access, academic journal, was inaugurated in March 2006, a collaboration between the Department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Latin American Social Medicine Association. Articles are published simultaneously in Spanish and English using the Open Journal System. By the end of July, 2008 150 articles had been published (Spanish 76, English 73, Portuguese 1). 38,233 articles had been downloaded in 2008; 21,068 in Spanish. English-speakers have a unique access to Latin American Social Medicine; Spanish readers have shown interest in English language articles. The journal represents one model for collaboration across languages and borders to further an international progressive health agenda.

Medicina Social/Social Medicine (revista académica electrónica de acceso abierto) fue inaugurada en marzo del 2006 como resultado del esfuerzo conjunto del Department of Family and Social Medicine (Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine) y la Asociación Latinoamericana de Medicina Social. Los artículos son publicados simultáneamente en inglés y en español, utilizando el Open Journal System. Para julio del 2008 ya habían sido publicados 150 artículos (76 en español, 73 en inglés y 1 en portugués) y descargados 38,233 (21,068 en español). A través de esta revista, los anglo parlantes tienen un acceso privilegiado a la medicina social latinoamericana. Los lectores de habla hispana también han mostrado interés en artículos originalmente escritos en inglés. La revista representa un modelo de colaboración entre dos idiomas y fronteras para promover una agenda progressista internacional de salud
