Biographical Sketch: Dr. Elaine Congress is Professor and Associate Dean at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service in New York City. Her most recent book focuses on Social Work with Immigrants and Refugees: Legal Issues, Clinical Skills, and Advocacy and her other publications have been on cultural diversity, ethics, and social work education. Dr. Congress developed the culturagram a family assessment tool to promote greater understanding of culturally diverse families that was recently adopted by Kaiser Permanente. She is a NGO representative for the International Federation of Social Workers (!FSW) at the United Nations and serves on the International Ethics Committee for IFSW. A past President of the NYC chapter of NASW, Dr. Congress is a active member of the Social Work section of APHA and was recently selected as Governing Councillor. She holds a BA in American Civilization from Brown University, a MAT in English from Yale University, a MSSW in Social Work from Columbia University, a MA in Psychology from the New School for Social Research, and a DSW from City University of New York.
