Biographical Sketch:
Janet Hess, MPH, CHES, is Assistant Program Director in the Department of Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine, at the University of South Florida (USF) College of Medicine. As Project Director for the Florida Health and Transition Services (FloridaHATS), Ms. Hess facilitated the legislatively mandated Health Care Transition Task Force for Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities, and was lead author of the resulting report. She also authored a comprehensive student curriculum to help youth with disabilities or chronic health conditions gain the health literacy and self-determination skills they need to successfully transition from pediatric to adult-oriented health care. She has a Masters of Public Health (MPH), is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), and is currently completing a Doctorate in Public Health at USF. Ms. Hess has worked extensively with Florida's Title V program for children and youth with special health care needs, and has served on a number of federal, state and local advisory committees. Her research interests disabilities and chronic health conditions across the lifespan.
