Biographical Sketch:
Betty Bekemeier, PhD, MPH, RN is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington School of Nursing where her focus is on public health systems research particularly as it pertains to state and local health departments and public health nurses. Her particular expertise is in the nature of public health practice and how that practice may best be organized and delivered in order to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities and the inequities that underlie them. Betty has served in leadership positions within the American Public Health Association and the Washington State Public Health Association. She is a fellow in The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars Program and, through this program, she is working with Public Health Practice-based Research Networks to measure the health outcomes of the drammatic practice changes occuring among local health departments.
