Biographical Sketch: Carole Bowe Thompson is the Community Research Associate for Heartland Health Network. She brings with her over 20 years of experience working with community and faith based organizations where she held numerous leadership roles that focused mostly on health promotion and education. Carole is a New York City native that relocated to Kansas City eleven years ago. Since coming to Kansas City she has held the position of Executive Director for the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Greater Kansas City (MGA) a single disease based organization where she successfully broadened clinic services from one clinic location to three clinic locations giving patients much expanded access to specialized medical services. Most recently, Carole served as the Deputy Director for Calvary Community Outreach Network (CCON) a faith based organization. Her leadership provided agency oversight, partnership building, fund development and creative development of community health education programming focusing on HIV, Youth Development and Health and Wellness. Her most significant contributions during her tenure at CCON were the: 1) co-creation of the Taking it to the Pews program, 2) development of the HIV Prevention, Compassion, and Action Tool Kit which is currently in use in over 14 KC metro African American CCON coooperating churches, and 3) assisting in the construction of CCON’s Community Wellness Center which provides a full-service fitness facility offering innovative wellness programs and strategies aimed at improving the overall health of its community residents.
