Biographical Sketch: Ms. Ballesteros has spent most of her career working in Chicago’s Latino communities addressing health disparities such as HIV/AIDS, prenatal and postnatal health, diabetes, and asthma. She is currently the Executive Director of the Greater Humboldt Park Community of Wellness, a broad coalition of organizations and individuals who come together to improve the health and wellness of the Greater Humboldt Park community through partnership building, collaboration, and leveraging of community strengths and capital. To date, the Community of Wellness has helped to leverage over $7million in funding for initiatives that impact the health of Humboldt Park residents. Ms. Ballesteros has a particular interest in Community-Based Participatory Research. She has presented to faculty at several Chicago universities on equitable, collaborative research partnerships with communities. Ms. Ballesteros received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 1999 and Master’s in Public Health in 2005 both from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her passion and work in community health focuses on taking a social, ecological approach to addressing multi-level systemic factors impacting health.
