Biographical Sketch: Michael Root is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Minnesota. His current interest is the use of race in the biomedical and social sciences to describe or explain differences within a population in health or socio-economic outcomes. He has presented papers on race at the 2008 meeting of the APHA and the 2009 meeting of the Society for Epidemiologic Research.
