Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Keawe‘aimoku Kaholokula is the Associate Chair of the Research and Evaluation Division of the Department of Native Hawaiian Health at the John A. Burns School of Medicine and Deputy Director for the Center for Native and Pacific Health Disparities Research. He is also the Principal Investigator of a National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities funded community-based participatory research (CBPR) project called, the PILI ‘Ohana Program: Partnerships to Overcome Obesity Disparities in Hawaii. His research interests include 1) examining the effects of biological, psychological, and socio-cultural factors (and their interplay) on the etiology and management of chronic illnesses among Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, 2) examining the role of acculturative stress and discrimination on Native Hawaiian health, and 3) designing and testing culturally-informed and community-placed health promotion interventions for Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders using CBPR approaches.
