Biographical Sketch:
Patricia M. Sweeney serves as the Associate Director for Law and Policy at the Center for Public Health Practice in the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. At the Center, she works with state and national partners to enhance legal preparedness for public health emergencies. Currently she is conducting seminars around the country teaching judges the law and science of public health. Ms. Sweeney is also an Assistant Professor in the department of Health Policy and Management where she teaches health and public health law courses and serves as the director of the School’s JD/MPH dual degree program. As a researcher, Ms. Sweeney is currently a lead investigator in the University of Pittsburgh’s Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Center (PERRC) analyzing the impact of law upon public health systems’ emergency preparedness and response capacities, and is serving as an investigator on an NIH MIDAS study employing computational modeling to inform local, state, and national infectious disease intervention policies. Ms. Sweeney earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. In addition, she holds a certificate in the Advanced Study of Health Law and is a Registered Nurse.
