Biographical Sketch:
Wizdom Powell Hammond is Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education at the Gillings School of Global Public Health and a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Hammond’s research focuses on investigating psychological and social determinants of health – both mental and physical – for African-American men across the life-span. She focuses on the influence of gender, intergenerational transmission of health, socioeconomic status, social processes such as racial discrimination, health-related attitudes and behavior on health status. Her work helps inform studies of health disparities and differences in cancer outcomes across the racial, gender, and economic spectrum.
