Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Jürgen Rehm has been appointed the Inaugural Chair for Addiction Policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health of the University of Toronto in 1994. In addition he holds the position of Director, Social, Prevention and Health Policy Research (SPHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Toronto, Canada) and the Institute for Clinical Pyschology and Psychotherapy of the Technical University Dresden (Germany). Dr. Rehm has published more than 450 peer-reviewed publications in addiction research, comprising studies in epidemiology,policy, economics and clinical research, the latter especially in the area of treatment evaluation. He contributed to various summary monographs on alcohol (Alcohol – No Ordinary Commodity) and drug policy (Drug Policy and the Public Good). Dr. Rehm is listed among the ISI most highly cited in the fields of social research and epidemiology. His major projects of the past years include directing the Comparative Risk Analysis for alcohol within the Global Burden of Disease studies, a project to estimate alcohol-attributable DALYs for the US and a large emergency room study on drug-taking and traffic accidents.
