Biographical Sketch:
Robin A. Pollini is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Global Public Health at the University of California San Diego’s School of Medicine. An epidemiologist by training, Dr. Pollini conducts research focusing on the public health impact of injection drug use. She has conducted studies on overdose risk factors and reasons for inappropriate response to overdose; factors that facilitate and impede drug treatment participation; and barriers to treatment of blood borne infections. Her current research uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to characterize structural-level factors that increase HIV transmission risk among injection drug users. This includes work in Tijuana, Mexico, where she is examining how pharmacy policies and policing practices influence sterile syringe use among injection drug users. Dr. Pollini holds MPH and PhD degrees from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University.
