Biographical Sketch:
Sylvia Mann Au, M.S., C.G.C. is the State Genetics Coordinator for the Hawaii Department of Health. She is board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Ms. Au received her B.S. from University of British Columbia and her M.S. in human genetics and genetic counseling from Sarah Lawrence College. Ms. Au has been the principal investigator on several federally funded projects to assess genetic services and newborn screening needs of professionals and families, implementing activities to meet the needs, and investigating the financial, ethical, legal, and social issues surrounding genetic and newborn screening services and education. Currently, she is the a co-investigator for the HRSA-funded Western States Genetics Service Collaborative which seeks to improve genetic and newborn screening services and education in Alaska, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Ms. Au also is a current member of the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Genetics, Health and Society.
