Biographical Sketch:
Liz Blackburn is the Science Communications Director for the USEPA Office of Research and Development. Prior to assuming that role, she was the Coordinator for Community Affairs and Outreach in the USEPA Office of Children’s Health Protection and Environmental Education where she was responsible for children’s environmental health program development and implementation, health care provider capacity building, product development, forging new and maintaining existing partnerships, and outreach team coordination. Liz has been a member of the National Children’s Study’s (NCS) Interagency Coordinating Committee since 2005. The NCS will examine the effects of environmental influences on the health and development of 100,000 children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21. She is the EPA liaison to the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) Council on Environmental Health. Prior to coming to EPA, Liz was a nurse at a local hospital spending most of her time in the oncology and post partum units. Before becoming a nurse, Liz was the Associate Director for a national non-profit, fundraising, public outreach, and education organization.
