Biographical Sketch: Dr. Mary Overpeck is a senior research scientist for data analysis in the National Center for Child Death Review (NCCDR). She published some of the first research showing that SUID deaths at the national level were inadequately recognized or measured. She also published extensively on issues related to infant deaths and childhood injuries as an epidemiologist at the National Institute of Child Health and continues this research. In her epidemiology position at the US Maternal and Child Health Bureau in 2001-2006, Dr. Overpeck served as a consultant to the NCCDR for the development of the death review case reporting system used by state and local review teams in documenting death circumstances to improve prevention programs. She received an MPH from the University of California at Los Angeles and a DrPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her doctoral majors included maternal and child health combined with epidemiology.
