Biographical Sketch: Lorrene Ritchie is Director of Research at U.C. Berkeley’s Atkins Center for Weight and Health where she works to promote the development of interdisciplinary, science-based and culturally relevant solutions to the obesity epidemic in children and families. To identify promising target behaviors for the prevention of obesity and its co-morbidities, she has been recently involved in several evidence-based reviews of the scientific literature. Current research interests include: assessment of the nutrition environment in child care, identification of dietary patterns and timing of eating of children in relation to obesity development, and documenting changes in dietary intakes and attitudes of WIC participants in response to changes in the food package and nutrition education.
