For the past twenty years, Jennifer Lorvick has worked on numerous public health research projects, collaborating on over twenty peer reviewed journal articles. Her research emphasis has been on HIV and other health problems that affect urban poor populations, particularly drug users. She has directed several community-based, epidemiological surveys focusing on health risk behavior and prevalence of infection. She has directed intervention studies to improve adherence to HIV anti-retroviral therapy and tuberculosis prophylaxis, and participated in policy studies assessing the impact of changes in welfare policy, availability of syringe exchange services and the impact of policing on HIV risk among injection drug users. She is currently Co-Investigator of a grant funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse to study sexual risk among female methamphetamine users in San Francisco.
