Disclosure statement:

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: For over 15 years, I have worked on behalf of underserved mobile populations, largely migrants and immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries. For the past nine years, I have served as Director of Environmental and Occupational Health Initiatives for Migrant Clinicians Network. With over 5,000 clinician constituents, MCN is the oldest and largest clinical network for the mobile underserved. MCN’s comprehensive environmental and occupational health programs aim to reduce migrant workers’ risks associated with environmental and occupational hazards by improving clinical knowledge and practice. Additionally, I have been a national leader in bringing the promotora de salud (lay health worker) model to environmental and occupational health efforts to educate communities about pesticides and ways to reduce their risks from pesticide exposure. Prior to my position with MCN, I worked with migrants on both sides of the US-Mexico border and helped grassroots organizations in their efforts to bring about a healthier environment and better working conditions. As Director of Outreach and Policy for the Center for Environmental Resource Management in El Paso, Texas, I directed several programs on both sides of the US-Mexico Border. I have been the principal investigator and project manager of numerous government and privately sponsored environmental and occupational health projects. I have authored articles, bilingual training manuals and other educational materials dealing with environmental and occupational health and migrants.
