Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have taught nursing for 25 years. I serve as the Co-Director for the Center for Hispanic Studies in Nursing and Health at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing. Since 1999, I have been involved with teaching a cultural immersion course in Cuernavaca, Mexico for nursing students, nurses and other health care professionals. I produced a video Los Suenos se Realizan, designed to recruit Hispanics into the nursing profession, and I received a Media award from Sigma Theta Tau International in 2004 in recognition of this production. The production was also viewed during the APHAs national film festival in Washington, DC in 2004. I served as the UTA Coordinator for the NIH funded Bridges to Doctorate program from 2004-2007. Currently, I am involved in a research project designed to promote retention, progression and graduation of minority students through identifying specific factors that help or hinder graduate student success.
