4180.0 Obesity Epidemiology

This interesting session will focus on the epidemiology of obesity. Presentations will include a discussion of an evaluation of a structural model of walking behavior and physical activity, the association of obesity with neighborhood socioeconomic status among schoolchildren, the association between obesity and injury among Taiwanese adults, and the prevalence of obesity in various regions along the Texas border. One session will focus on the relationship between obesity and childhood asthma in a Puerto Rican population.
Session Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. List two indicators of neighborhood-level SES that have been linked to individual children’s health and obesity status 2. Describe the relationship between obesity and risk of injury among Taiwanese adults 3. Identify the relationship between obesity and childhood asthma 4. Describe how the prevalence of obesity varies within border region and Hispanic ethnicity
