This session will include presentations about various topics related to the impact of policy and finance decisions on access to medical and dental care for women, children and infants. Two presentations will address the coverage issues for children including alternative coverage options. Two papers will present studies that demonstrate that access to insurance is not sufficient to access quality care. The final presentation will discuss how international standards can be used to assess statewide child health programs.
Session Objectives: Describe the impact of insurance on access to dental and medical care for children. Describe several strategies for improving access to care for children with coverage. Describe two potential applications of the Children’s Health Checklist. Describe two ways insurance status may affect utilization of prenatal care and patient-provider interaction.
