5090.0 International Health Film Festival 05: The Politics of Food: Three Approaches to Filmmaking

Wednesday, October 29, 2008: 10:30 AM
Oral

A screening of film excerpts as a way to examine three very-different styles and approaches to documentary filmmaking. King Corn (90 min., Dir. Aaron Woolf; Information: www.bullfrogfilms.com) uses humor and a personal approach by following two recent U.S. college graduates on a journey to grow an acre of corn and trace it into the food chain. Our Daily Bread (92 min., Dir. Nikolaus Geyrhalter; Information: www.frif.com) relies on shocking and indelible images free from text or narration to portray the politics of food technology. We Feed the World (96 min., Dir. Erwin Wagenhofer; Information: www.bullfrogfilms.com) blends interview, verité, and more experimental footage to tell the story of the increasingly globalized food industry.
